HISTORY OF THE USTL
The USTL was formed in June of 2001 when a group of regional Taekwondo and Tang Soo Do associations joined together to produce a high quality National level tournament for point sparring competitors. The first year’s tournament was held in Memphis, TN at the Memphis Convention Center over a two day period with competition in the following areas: forms, point sparring, team forms and team sparring, board breaking (both power and combination) and weapons. Divisions were offered in all age groups (from 6 & under to Senior – 45 & up) as well as all belt levels.
Following the success of this first tournament, the 2002 tournament was held in Nashville, TN at the Opryland Resort and Convention Center. The USTL held its third annual tournament in San Antonio, Texas on July 4th and 5th.. The 2003 tournament hosts were the United States Taekwondo Academy and Wes and Jennifer Olney of San Antonio. The Marriot River Center Hotel on San Antonio’s River Walk was the Tournament Host Hotel.
